The Gwern Gof Isaf and Gwern Gof Uchaf campsites are nestled in the Ogwen valley and make a well located base from which to explore Tryfan.
There was a slightly questionable forecast upon departing bristol but a few dedicated members decided to brave the bank holiday traffic and were rewarded by a surprisingly rain free weekend in the end.
This is not what I was expecting when Becky and I arrived at the campsite late on the Friday night and perused the North Wales Scrambling guide whilst the hail stones pinged off the sides of the van.
Sheltering from the hail. That looks like tea but its actually wine.
Me slogging my way up to Heather Terrace
On the Saturday we walked up to Heather Terrace and enjoyed an easy scramble up the east side of Tryfan. Becky bagged all the summits like a summit bagging machine while I enjoyed the rainbow and a nice thermos of stewed instant coffee. In the evening we caught up with the other AMC members in the newly refurbished pub in Capel Curig.
Delighted to enjoy the rainbow with a coffee
On the Sunday we climbed a 3 pitch V Diff on Milestone buttress, which whilst we didn’t exactly start at the crack of dawn still surprised us by keeping us out until sunset. No harm done, off to Bethesda for some well earned fish and chips.
On the Monday we awoke to rain and satisfied with our achievements we decided to start the journey to Bristol.
