4 AMC members made it to Llanthony Priory on Saturday 17th May for the 2014 Big Black Mountain Challenge in aid of Longtown MRT.
Phil Orwell and Becky Bagnall arrived the night before and stayed in the local camp site, while Dave and Sharon Beynon stayed with friends in Abergavenny. Due to a lack of phone signal the two groups completely failed to meet.
All four took the “A” route, which is 43, 44 or 47 km long depending on which bit of the website or publicity materials you choose to believe. Blazing sunshine made the steep ascents uncomfortably warm, although there was just enough of a breeze on top to stop things from getting unpleasant.
I’m happy to report that the entire AMC contingent finished, with nobody bringing the club into disrepute and that the tea and cake laid on at the finish tent were rather excellent.
